Not getting jobs of a storage unit, even though the jobs exist

Following two jobs belong to storage unit storage_unit_swauto-sw-05_stu_oatis_container:

Email Benachrichtigung funktioniert nicht

Ich habe in Backup Exec 2012 die E-mails und Textmeldungen konfiguriert. Sprich die IP-Adresse vom Emailserver, Absenderadresse usw. eingetragen. Trotzdem werden die Testemails an die Empfänger nicht versendet. Als Meldung erscheint nur: "Eine Testbenachrichtigung wurde für den ausgewählten Empfänger vorbereitet."  Die Meldung an sich kommt aber nie  beim Empfänger an und erreicht wohl auch nicht den Emailserver. In den Logs ist keine Verbindung zu sehen.

 

Emailversand per Telnet klappt aber ohne Probleme über den entsprechenden Server.

 

Hat vielleicht jemand noch eine Idee? Firewall ist auf den Server ausgeschaltet.

I am trying to run backups of my virtual machines in Vmware.

vCenter not working after SDR with BE2012

Have a physical server with BE2012 and vCenter 5.1.  Did a custom SDR backup and restore on the same box (different drives) and BE works fine, but vCenter will not start.  Went through many hoops with VMware and they could not resolve the issue - suspect that the database is corrupt.

Cannot enumerate mailboxes on new Exchange 2010 install

BE 2010 R3 5204 (x64) w/SP2.

We are in the process of setting up a new Exchange 2010 box to migrate our 2003 users to.

The server is set up, and I pushed the agent to the server and rebooted.

When I go to Backup, then to favs - Windows System, I see the new server in there.  It shows the drives and the Ms Info Store, and the individual mail stores.  However, when I click on them, I see no users mailboxes.  We do have a test mailbox set up.

I ran the debug monitor and don't know for sure what to look for.

 

ideas?

 

 

 

How does a restore of one Email work?

Dear All

I am searching for the conclusion how a restore of a single mail file works. I don't know how the process is, when I check for example an Email (under outlook, drafts) Than I do a restore of it. So how is the process? From where does it take the file, and how does it come back in the specific mailbox? I just don't get that and even found no entries online I understood. Or all where not about the details.

 

Another question (but less important at the moment) is, by doing an restore of one email file under drafts, I received the error message "not enough memory space". But there is 100% enough space in the outlook mailbox due to the fact that we don't have any limits there.

Successful deployment of large media servers with deduplication

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I am looking to deploy a large managed media server for Backup Exec 2012. I would like the deduplication disk pool to be 24 tb or greater. I know the documention states that I should install 1.5 gb of ram for every terabyte of deduplication disk, plus ram requirements for the OS and running Backup Exec 2012. I have also seen suggestions where 1.5 gb of ram is not enough and that the ratio should be 2 gb ram/ 1 tb of deduplication disk. 

I am looking for real life examples where users have deployed large media servers with a deduplication disk pool of 24 tb or greater. I am would like to know the following information about your media server:

Size of deduplication disk;

Ram installed on server:

Version of operating system:

Version of Backup Exec:

Hello

We testing the new DR of BE2012, we create all steps required to recover a server in a dissimilar hardware. All works fine, but after the system started and we give the login the Windows requires to activate the license.

According Symantec this is an issue of Microsoft. So, what we can do? If I activate Windows the old license die? We did not continued with the recover because as this is a test we think that the license that is working could be die and the system will stop to work.

Two conditions that are important in this lab, the recover test was in dissimilar hardware and the license of the original server is OEM (it's a Dell server), the S.O. is Server 2003 Standard Ed.

I need a solution

Hi,

   I am restoring a crashed server. I have BE 12 (I installed only quickstart by mistake but have the full std license). I want to recatalog tapes but had set up two virtual drives on my Sony LIB-162, 0 on 1-6, and 1 on 7-16. I am forgetting how to re-establish these virtual drives. Will there be a problem doing so in quickstart?

Question about Backup Exec 2010 r3 SP2 upgrade

Hello everyone!

 

While we are not quite ready to make the jump to Backup Exec 2012, my company would like to rollout Backup Exec 2010 r3 SP2 as it fixes quite a few issues we’ve been having.

 

Our media server is a Win 2008 server which is backing up a mix of 2003, 2008 and 2008r2 boxes via agents. A few of these servers are using AOFO, most are not.

 

I plan to do the update via Live Update and I was curious if a reboot of the servers I’m backing up is mandatory after the update is complete? Some people have said that you need to reboot all of the servers, some say that you only need to reboot servers that are using AOFO on the agent. I’ve had 2 support calls and have read extensively on the topic however it seems there are some conflicting opinions on this.

 

I basically want to know if I can apply the update, backup as per usual and then update the agents/reboot as needed over time. (I know that some agents will continue to backup even if they feel they are out of date.)

 

Anyone care to take a stab at this? Does anyone have any prior experiences dealing with this?

Clustered Microsoft Windows Computer Failover Cluster

I have several servers showing in the servers list of Backup Exec 2012 that are Microsoft Clustered Services/Applications

Like I have been backing up the indivudal nodes

SQL1A - Resources: C drive, utility parition, shadow copy

SQL1B - Resources: C drive, utility parition, shadow copy

But It always list servers by the name of:

SQL1C - Resources: ?\Volume{c1c0805b---------} with the folders Cluster and System Volume Information   with it being only 16 MB
SQL1FTP 
SQL1WEB

How should I back up these non physical computers and if anything would to happen (I'm not sure exactly what), how would I restore them? These are non virtual machines, this is just Failover Cluster

Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition (SBE) tial software and documentation...

I need a solution

I am trying to get hold of a trial version of "Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition". However, when I follow the "Trial Software" link on the product page, log in and download the .ISO files. IT appears to be the full product and not the SBE.

Now, I know there are very specific limitations on what agents are covered by the SBE licensing and that there are very specific installation scenarios that the SBE licensing and product will only support. I also recall, during the beta testing of the SBE product, that there was a SBE specific "simplified" interface. So, I'm kind of lost as to how I can get a trial of the SBE version of BE, when I only have the full product, which has none of these limitations/restrictions/benefits!?

I also have another issue in that the Backup Exec Administrators Guide still has no information specific to these significant SBE product limitations or supported installation scenarios. For those of you in Symantec involved in the release of this product... I gave feedback on this issue, during the beta testing, and was told that it would be looked into. But it is apparent that this has not been done or deemed important enough. However, I am glad to see that you guys are at least giving some kind of version reference in your admin guide now.

So, I have two questions:

1. Why can we not get a trial version of the real SBE product, with all it's relevant limitations and restrictions in place?

2. Why does the BE admin documentation not at least have a SBE appendix that covers the supported installation scenarios and agent licensing limitations This would at least reduce the need for the above specific SBE trial version of the software; as we would be able to install the full product as if it were the SBE product, following the limitations outlined in the documentation.

Es wird zb. Ein Server am Freitag 20 Uhr mit einer Vollsicherung gesichert auf Disk. Danach soll ein Folgejob das Ganze auf Band am Freitag um 23.59 Uhr sichern. Wenn aber der erste Job um 23.59 Uhr noch nicht fertig ist, wird der Bandjob einfach ausgelassen. Es ist aber angekreuzt, dass er 240 Stunden nicht neu geplant werden soll. Er schiebt den Bandjob eine Woche weiter.

Back-up Exec Media server not seeing remote server

Good Morning all,

 

I have a media server which has Symantecd Backup exec 2010 R3 installed on domain A, I have a virtual machine on domain B, the media server cant see the PC on domain B.

 

The two domains have a trust and i can remotely connect to the PC on domain B from the media server on domain A, there are no firewall rules in place.

I have had to install the remote back-up agent locally on the pc on domain B, i have configured it to speak to the media server, and it even populates the 'security' tab on the remote agent utility, but does not populate the 'status' tab.

Am i missing something here?  Is there any other way to create a back-up job so that i can force the media server to see the remote pc?

Any help would be grealty appreciated.

I need a solution

Hi,

Our current disk to tape backup rates are running at a steady 1900MB/min, I was hoping to get a little more than this. We are using the BackupExec 3600 appliance (yes I know theres a seperate forum group for this but it doesn't seem very active so would rather it stays here).

I believe these are the BackupExec 3600 appliance specs:
2 x RAID 1 SSDs for the OS
4 x RAID5 7.5k for the dedupe
6 GB/seconds SAS host bus adapter

Our tape drive is a HP 1/8 GT Tape Autoloader connected directly into the SAS connection of the appliance.

Is there anything we can do to try and increase the speeds? Our preveious backup tape was a LTO4 connected to U320 SCSI and was sometimes not much slower than what we are running at the moment. Thanks

deduplication folder offline

I need a solution

I setup deduplication (2010 R3 all updates) no problem, and a backup job ran for about 50 hours and failed because on one server, the backup exec media server (Final error: 0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status.Final error category: Resource Errors).

So 50 hours and failed because one server out of many.

The real problem is though that when I reran the job I get an error:

(failed Final error: 0xe000810c - Physical Volume Library Drive not available.Final error category: Backup Device Errors

How can it be not available and if I right click on the online is checked but greyed out. I restarted the server, havent changed anything.

(btw, anyone know of any good alternatives to backupexec, too mnay bugs).

Exchange Backups failing

Team,

Backup Version :Symantec Backup Exec verison 2010 R3.

Type of Backup : Exchnage Backup Issue

Tape Library Model : Quantum I 80

 

Exchnage Backups are getting failed with the following error, when it is configured to the tape library.

e00002fe - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again.

But if the same backup is configured to the backup to disk then it is completing successfull.

Can you pelase help on this issue & help in resolving it.

Note : Remaining all other backups are running successfully on the same library

How to properly create a selection list for a hyper-v server

I currently have a hyper-v host running Windows 2008 R2(small business server 2011) with 2 guest VMs. In I'd appreciate some thoughts on how to properly choose the hosts and guests in the selection list.

 

The hyper-v host is running backup exec 2012. I installed the backup exec remote agent on each of the two Windows 2008 R2 VMs. In my list of servers, I now see the following:

1.  hyper-v host

2.  VM guest #1

3.  VM guest #2 (this server is running SharePoint and Exchange as part of the SBS install)

4. SharePoint server farm 1 (this is the sharepoint instance from Windows 2008 R2 VM guest #2).

 

If I create a backup job for the hyper-v host, it allows me to select the host and the two guest VMs in it. I run the backup and it finishes successfully. however, when I go to the list of servers, the two VMs and the SharePoint server farm are listed as "never backed up".  Do I need to create separate backup for these VMs or will the job I already have cover it? I do want to be able to use the GRT functionality for SharePoint and
Exchange.
