BE2010R3 - Bar code Labels

I need a solution

Will Backup Exec automatically update its database with new bar code label information if I switch out the label on a tape?

For example, if I have a tape that is labeled with 000001 and I've used it for a backup.  Then replace the label of that tape with say R000001 and have BE inventory it.  When I go to do a restore, will it know to ask for R000001 instead of 000001?

Restore of data from exchange dag GRT backup fails

Our setup for exchange is a cas array with 2 cas/bus servers and 2 mailbox servers in a dag, exchdag, with 2 databases running in vm's on server 2008 r2.

In a nutshell one of our users recieved a new iphone 5 and sync'd it to his outlook causing his contacts and calendar to be wiped. The servers are backed up full on friday with incrementals the rest of the work week. The exchange store is being backed up using the dag backup option and the data is available in the backup but fails every time i try to recover it. GRT is enabled.

I have tried restoring direct to the original location, redirect to the casarray, one of the individual cas servers, routing directly to mbx01 and trying to burn it to pst. 

Usually I log in as a standard domain admin on the backup server but I also tried logging in as the beservice account and this had no bearing on the outcome. outlook is installed on this machine fully patched as well.

The databases are available for overwrite restore options and the beservice account meets all of the administrative/permissions criteria. This is definately something specific to the exchange 2010 install, which is current with all updates, since we just recently upgraded from exchange 2007 and did not have an issue then. Of course before we only had a single box exchange server with all roles. 

The following is what I get when I try to restore to a pst, which seems a little fishy to me, which was pointed to c:\psts but for some reason is trying to route to \\localhost\Microsoft Information Store?

I need a solution

Is there a resolution for GRT backups filling up RD1000 tapes so that we don't have to format all tapes at each site when they fill up?  It seems to be able to overwrite the data backups on the tape but not the GRT Exchange backups.

In the past I have applied all the patches that supposedly resolved this but never did.  Any ideas?

Backup Exec: 2012 with Exchange Agent
Exchangeserver: 2003 (all SPs and Hotfixes)
BackupExec and Exchange-Server not on same machine. None of them is a DC.

Hi professionals,

trying to make full Backups and incremental Backups of my Exchange Database using the GRT-Option (AOFO off)

The full Backup works fine, the incremental fails permanently with error "could not open Exchange-Database file: -1811 The file was not found"
I took a look at the BAckup-Debug-Viewer during the Job and found "OPEN DATABASE FAILED: Logon returned e000fea9".
I already read every Post I could find concerning this error, without finding a solution. The Login-credentials for the BackupJob are correct and the logon-name is the same as the screenname (mention this, because in one Post problems are reportetd if they are different)

During the Job BackupExec write the Exchnage Files correctly to the Temp-Folder, so this is available to.

Anyone aout there with the same Problem....or better, with a hint for a solution?

I am currently using BackupExec 2010 R3 with Exchange Archive Option enabled and archiving messages OK.

I've overcome several hurdles for local install/configuration of the Outlook plug-in on user computers (GPOs to address issues with AutoArchive, Cached Exchange mode, and Outlook Anywhere).

I'm now trying to get this to work in my Citrix XA6 environment, but despite my GPO, Outlook detects that it is running on a terminal server, and therefore disables Cached exchange mode, and grays out the checkbox for it.  This makes sense, since we have a farm of several servers, and I'd prefer not having to manage large OST files in roaming profiles. 

However, the Outlook plug-in to allow access to vault stores in Outlook will not work if Cached Exchange mode is disabled.  I found this thread in these forums:

According to the post, it appears that the user is also using the BE Exchange Archive option (and, not the full blown Enterprise Vault product).  But, the accepted solution involves accessing the EV admin console to configure some policies. 

Is this possible using the BE Exchange Archive option?  Is it even possible to accomplish this goal in my environment, or do I need the full blown EV product?  Using BE Retrieve is ok, but, my users prefer having access to archived items from within Outlook and using an equivalent interface to the existing method they use to mount and access PST files.

I am setting Symantec Backup Exec 2010R3.

My BackupServer is connecting SAN and Ethernet. Backup Server is Physical server , not Virtual server.
and FileServer is running on the VMware(as a virtual server ) and the vmdk and FileServer's data are stored on the SAN storage.

I want to backup Fileserver's data via SAN.

How can I configure Backup exec job ?
If I make Backup exec job to backup , by default backup exec backup via SAN without any specific checking option ?
please let me know how to configure Backup via SAN ?

I try to use the software compression when backing up a cluster hyper on a NAS but no compression occurs. The size is exactly the same with or without compression.

How could we do to compress our data?

DST cause job to not complete? BE2012

I need a solution

Hello, the time changed back to eastern standard time during my fileserver full backup. I just checked and the job was still running and I could not see the activity. The media was marked with no end marker. The cancel job was not available. I had to restart the services and the job ended as canceled. To see what was backed up, I started a restore. I can see where the backup stopped running looking at the folders. After restarting the services the media was reflagged as appendable. It seems that the time affected the running job so that it was not able to complete. From reading the DST problem was fixed with version 2012. I am SP1a and have two patches applied. I am running the backup from where it died. Had I know the DST change would have affected the job, I would have rescheduled it. Anyone else have this happen early this morning? Thank you

Hi All,

I'm looking for a bit of advice and I'm hoping someone here can help me? I've Googled and Googled to no end :)

We have a reoccuring problem where our import media jobs do not complete in Backup Exec 2010, therefore queueing backup jobs. I'm just wondering if there's a way to change the default automatic cancellation settings for just media import jobs?

The media imports aren't scheduled jobs and often happen ad-hoc, so setting the cancellation option for each job may not be practical. The backups can take over 24 hours, so using the option for all jobs will not work either.

Idealy, I'd like the non-schedualed, import jobs to cancel after an hour, but other jobs to continue as normal. Can anyone suggest a way I could acheive this? Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

Good Day,

 

I'm not sure if there is a duplicate post about this issue but i cannot find one, anyways this is what we have for our backup infrastructure:

Software: BE2010 r3

Library: IBM System Storage TS3100

 

The issue is i have a daily differential backups on almost 90 servers running every night Sunday to Thursday. Sometimes we would decide not to run the backup for a specific day for a certain reason. When we were using the older version of Symantec Backup Proxy 12.5 we can hold the backup for all servers for just a day without affecting other daily backup.

For example:

I have Server01 scheduled to run every night from Sunday to Thursday but then i want to hold the job on Tuesday. In the old version we can hold the job only on Tuesday but Wednesday and Thursday jobs are still on schedule unlike on BE2010 r3 when i hold the job on Tuesday, it holds all daily jobs for that server.

Anybody knows if can hold a daily job on my desired day only but keep the jobs on schedule?

 

Appreciate any help from you guys.

Symantec Backup sometime got disconnect

Dear Friends,

   I am using Symantec BAckup exec and have A problem  when I run first attempt backup always got disconnect status and become fail, so I try rerun the backup gain and always the secod one is success.

  And I have this error code : Server Task srd00sv017 ==> message error windows agent no detected on server

Hi, we use backup exec for our servers in out data centre. We would like to backup out site servers to this backup server in the data centre. Can someone suggest the best replication tool that work with backup exec that can do this please. total new to this area.

Recurring backup job

Hi,

I am running Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R2.

There is a particular backup job that is scheduled to run every Saturday at 00:05. The job is configured to "start no earlier than 00:05:00 and no later than 18:10:00."

The job ran last weekend and started as configured on Saturday at 00:05 and completed on Sunday at 03:45:12. The job then started AGAIN on Sunday at 03:50:13 (5 minutes after it completed) and completed on Monday at 06:41:05. The job then started AGAIN on Monday at 06:46:08 (5 minutes after it completed) and I cancelled it this morning ...

The job seems to restart 5 minutes after it finished. Where is this setting?

The job is part of a policy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

voici le message :  "Database ReportServer IMOS is configured to maintain transaction logs.  Transaction log backups are not being performed.  This will result in the log growing to fill all available disk space.  Regular log backups should be scheduled or the database should be changed to the simple recovery mode."

Restore Mailbox Store to another exchange server using backup exec 11d

I need a solution

Hi,

I need to recover a mailbox from a backup but I do not have enough space on the exchange server to restore a copy to there. I have installed ms exchange on a virtual server and I want to restore the backup to there but I am unsure of how to do this. When I try to restore to a shared folder on this virtual server I get an error: if you redirect the restore of a Microsoft 2000 later storage group or database and you also select the No Loss Restore OPtion, the database may not be able to mount after the restore.

Any ideas on this?

I have read a good number of  posts on this, though they date back to 2010.
 
We use the LaCie 5big Nework Storage NAS (http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10485) the "backup media".
The nas 'mounts' just fine via explorer.
 
I've tried rebooting both devices, stopping/starting BackupExec services, and unchecking Tools | Options | Catalog | Use storage media-based catalogs  [Unchecked].
 
Any insights are appreciated.

Hotfix 1 for Syamntec Backup Exec 10d

I need a solution

Hi,

Can someone tell me where I can download Hotfix 1 for Backup Exec 10d. We had to reinstall two servers and we need to be able to install the remote agent on a 64 bit machine but we would need Hotfix 1 to do that. I believe the file is RAWSx64InstallMedia_280701.exe. All of the links that I have found on older posting are no longer working.

Unable to restore mail items from exchange 2010 backup

Backup exec 2012 on stand alone server with outlook 2007 and exchange management tools installed on server.

casarray with 2 cas/hub servers and a dag with 2 mailbox servers all virtualized. 

The Information store is being backed up using a dag backup 'exchdag' backing up the entire exchange information store. 

The exchange server backups backup the servers minus the information store. 

 

Backups and restores worked fine under exchange 2007 2 months ago Since then we have upgraded to Exchange 2010 on server 2008r2 but something with the exchange 2010 setup backup exec doesn't like. The backups go through fine and the data is there but when ever I try to restore to the same location, redirecting to one of the cas servers, or redirecting to a pst it fails

When I try to recover it to a pst it tried to send it to \\localhost\Microsoft Information Store instead of the C:\psts directory i had set up for it. 
I've tried unmounting the databases and this did not do anything.
