Can is use the regular windows server agent instead of File server agent for file server

I've noticed that when my individual shares show up as below, I can't actually chose them unless I expand the C:\ drive and THEN pick them from in there (seems to defeat the whole purpose):

 My question is (and i'm trying it now) can't I just use the windows computers and servers client? I don't have the misleading picture above of individual shares that are actually empty.
