Backup Exec 2012 and B2D

I need a solution

I have a 32TB disk storage connected to my Media Server.  I am running a few jobs B2D and then Dup to Tape.  I wanted to keep my B2D media sets for 2 weeks before removing them.  I'm confused about B2D in 2012.  I can go into Storage Groups, Storage and B2D and look at the media sets created.  I had one with an expiration of Feb 19, 2012 3:40PM.  I thought after the expiration, this media set would automatically be removed and the disk space freed up.  How do you clean up B2D files in 2012?  If I delete the media sets, can I then go to the folder and delete the bkf. file.  when I look at the folder on the Media Server, I see bkf files back to Feb 6 & 7, 2013 but no Media Sets show up for these dates in BE.  Yesterday, I cleaned out some Media Sets that I know were no longer needed (test jobs) and ran a catalog on the B2D but that didn't to change my Free Space Status.

In 12.5, I liked being able to see when when my B2D folders get to the point of being available for overwritten.  In 2012, the status on my B2D folder shows I have 8.59 TB of Free space, if I delete the media sets and then delete the bkf file, I would expect this Free Space to increase.  I'm concerned that the media sets are not being cleaned up at the time of expiration and I am going to run into a problem with my jobs in a few days.

Could someone provide some direction and information on how to clean up B2D, expired media sets and bkf files, please?

Thank you for your time.
