just faceing a problem with my BE2012 installation. I bought the maintenance renewal and added the SLF file to my installation.
When I try to remove the old maintenance contract I receive the error on the screenshot which says "Unable to remove product license".
Can somebody help me with this issue? Thanks in advance.

What is the best way to configure a Synthetic template.
I have looked at the manual but what is truely the best way?
I have a single B2D folder just for Synthetic's.
Under Destination-Device and Media
Device is set to Synthetic Folder
Media set is "Synthetic Weekly"
For the "When this job begins" I changed the default option to Overwrite Media. Is this the best option ofr preformance?
The "solution" in the KB below is useless as I am running it on a DC and there is no local admin....I run it as the domain admin....also tried my account - which is an enterprise admin - same error.

Please i have a backup of the system state of my computer and i'm trying to restore either the complete system state or just the active directory alone, but both are not successful.
Firstly i tried restoring the system on a computer i just installed Windows 2008 on but the restore was just moved to a folder on my C drive.
Secondly i tried the active directory and its still not working.
I currently use Symantec Backup Exec 2012 pls can anyone help.

I have been involved to an SQL restore and I 'm having a problem.
We need to restore an SQL database with 3 mdf files. All mdf files are located in the same drive. But we need to do the restore redirecting each mdf to a different drive.
We need to do that because we are restoring to vmware and the size of the three mdf files are exceeding the maximum size of the vmware datastore.
Is this possible with backup exec 2010 or not and how?

Hello...I am getting error when backing up the System State on a domain controller. (Windows Server 2003)
The job log error is:
V-79-57344-34086 - Snapshot Technology: Initialization failure on: "System?State". Snapshot technology used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot technology error (0xE0008526): Backup Exec could not locate a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) software or hardware snapshot technology for this job. Select a valid VSS snapshot technology for the target computer.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
And the event viewer on the domain controller does show 2 VSS errors.
1) Volume Shadow Copy Service error. Unexpected error calling routing CoCreateInstance. hr =0x80070057
Event ID: 8193 Source: VSS
2) Volume Shadow Copy Service information: The COM Server with CLSID {faf53cc4-bd73-4e36-83f1-2b23f46e513e] and name VSSEvent cannot be started.[0x80070057]

if i want to perform GRT backups on my hyper-v guest do i need a license for Remote Windwos agent license?
Most of our servers have a dedicated backup NIC on them that is used for backups using Backup Exec 2012. We assign IPs to the backup NICs and make any local host entry edits needed to make the server and backup exec communicate.
I now need to implement this with a clustered File Server (Server 2008 R2). The Virtual Server for the File Server Service has a virtual IP of 10.10.10.x but the backup subnet is on 10.10.20.x. I have the individual node NICs setup and working on the backup network and I can ping the backup exec server, so if I back up resources by pointing to an individual server it works using the backup subnet. How can I make it so I can use a virtual IP in case of a failover? I don't want to point the backups to any specific node, so I'm looking to find out how to add an IP from the backup subnet to the File Server Instance.

Last week I had a problem with creating a backup job on a Qnap NAS.
BE2012 always shows that not enough privilege when I used Administrator account and the right password already.
The embarrassing situation just got in to my boss.
At that time, I did'nt realize that I have to use iSCSI to creat a new partition at first.
My boss scolded 'Don't you know that BE2012 doesn't support NAS?' and sent a senior engineer to deal with the problem.
The senior engineer solved the problem successfully by using iSCSI, and he did encounter the privilege issue just like me.
I am wondering is that really a privilege problem, or it's just a NAS configuration step and BE2012 can't show me?

An exception is thrown after each remote agent push.
Steps to replicate.
1. From the Backup and Restore ribbon, i select Add (Add Servers).
2. Select Microsoft Windows computers and servers.
3.Tick Allow establish trust.
4. Type the machine name and add.
5. Select my system logon account
6. Select both Upgrade the current backup agent and restart remote server if required.
After the successfull is complete, i get the following exceptions. After clicking OK, Backup Exec 2012 closes, and i then need to restart it.
This happens every time i add a new server.

I'm trying to recover a server to new hardware using sdr and a tape backup.
When I get to the step where I have to choose the backup set it doesn't show my tape drive. When I check under storage controllers it shows the scsi controller is active. I also installed the tape driver. I used a Win7 x32 driver because the sdr is win7 as far as I know. But it still doesn't appear under computer.
The server is a HP DL580 G7 with a hp p212 controller and a hp lto 5 tape drive.
Can you please explain step by step how to recover to a new server using tape and sdr. And do I have to do something else to install the tape drive?

After moving BEDB to new server(SQL server) with BEUTIL, the BE services will not start
The BEUTIL move went without any problems, BE 2012 is running on server1 (2008 R2) and the SQL server is running on server2 (2008R2)
I get event ID 7003, The Backup Exec Device & Media Service service depends the following service: MSSQL$instance. This service might not be installed.
This is correct that the MSSQL$instance instance do not exist on server1, because it is moved to server2. How can I change the BE config so the BE services do not depend on the SQL on server1 but on server2

J’ai un serveur backup exec 2010 qui backupe un serveur exchange 2010.
J’ai l’impression que backup exec 2012 créé des fichiers temporaires dans le système volume information.
Ce dossier prend 62Go sur 130Go et j’ai quasiment plus de place sur mon disque.
Les fichiers sont bien créés et modifiés lors du backup.
I can not have access to folder and delete them

Hi all, I was wondering if the latest version of backup exec 2012 is compatible with oracle linux 6.0 update 3 (6.3)? It doesn't feature in the SCL but I imagine 6.3 was released after the SCL was published.

I have a test environment, were i have Backup Exec 2012 R1 installed on a Server 2008 R2.
I know that Backup Exec 2012 R2, will be released soon.
My question is, why can i install windows agent on a Windows 8, and on a Windows Server 2012 Datacenter, and not on a Server 2012 Standard?
After installing the agent on a Windows 8, and W2012 Datacenter, i can backup and restore any thing, including SDR.
What is the difference between Datacenter and Standard, for Backup exec 2012?

Every day the last back up I have fails to complete after it has finished and ejects the tape.
I have configured the automatic alerts to respond 1 minute after the alert happens.
I am running BE 2012 and use LTO 4 tapes

We are about to implement a solution, where by they have a Server 2008 Standard base install, then have their SBS 2011 Server running within Hyper-V. I have read the SBE document and it states 3 virtual or 3 physical. Can I assume that the SBS Server will be covered with SBE?
Backup Exec would of course be installed on the physical 2008 Standard install so that it can communicate with the LTO device.
