I want to monitor the event log for successful backup. Is there a list of possible event IDs and event sources that are used rather than just guessing based on what I happen to see at the moment?
Thanks
I am currently on 2010 R2 Build 4164 (64bit).
I am needing to update the Tape Drive drivers using the Tapeinst tool.
Where do i download the newest driver pack for tape drives?
First Question:
If I update my current 2010 R2 with the latest greatest service packs and hot fixes.
I know that the remote agents need to be updated also but will they still communicate and function until i can get them updated?
Second Question:
If I upgrade my current 2010 R2 to 2010 R3.
Will the older agents still communicate and function until i can get them updated?
Third Question:
If I upgrade my current 2010 R2 to 2012.
Will the older agents still communicate and function until i can get them updated?
Forth Question:
How does the in-line upgrade from 2010 R2 to 2012 work?
So I installed a TL2000 with a LTO4 tape drive. My backups seem to take more tapes now than with my LTO3 backups. I have the Syamntec LTO4 tape drivers in device manager. Is there a way to get or run a test to see waht is actuially being stored on the tapes? Thanks

Hi,
Are there any kind of notifications when an attached autoloader managed by BE 2010 is low on space?
I think BE 2012 does, but I don't know if 2010.
Thanks,
Marco
hi there, i'm in the process of upgrading symantec backup exec for a customer from v12.5 installed on Windows 2003 R2 to v2010 R3 on Windows 2008 R2. I have done this for previous versions but it was all on the same operating system from 9 to 10, 10 to 11, 11 to 12, etc. I'd like to know how I should proceed with this. I already have the Windows 2008 R2 server built with the base backup exec 2010 R3 installed, but haven't moved or copied any data.
thanks!
One of the requirements for running a GRT backup/restore of Exchange is to "perform a custom installation of the Exchange Service Packs". I am following this Symantec tech article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH51740. I am not sure how to do a custom installation and also whether I need to install all three of the service packs on my media server or just SP3. I am at SP3 on my Exchange 2007 server running Windows 2003 x64. Media server is running Windows Server 2003 x32.
What is a "custom installation" and how do I perform one?
What are the implications of installing a service pack when the base software, in this case Exchange, is not installed on the Media server?
Thanks,
Linda

Hello,
We have several hundred LTO-3 tapes that we would like to migrate to newer tape technology to replace old media as well as reduce the physical space needed for storage. We have several Dell ML6000 units with a mix of servers running BE 12d and BE 2010. The ML6000 units have a mix of LTO 3/4/5 drives. Tapes were written using NDMP.
Can I do a tape to tape migration of data from LTO3 to LTO5 without having to restore the LTO-3 data to the storage array and then re-write back to LTO-5? If so, what is the proper procedure to follow?
Thank you,
Eric
I've got another question. I'm sure i'm just missing a setting somewhere. I am going through backup sets and am finding backup sets, for example, that have been expired since August of last year:
sorry, it's a bit fuzzy. anyway, isn't BE supposed to reclaim that disk space? i'm going through and manually deleting them but I want/need BE to do this for me. can anyone tell me what i've missed or gotten incorrect? thanks!
I am creating storage units whose names are somewhat big. I am not getting storage units fully using command Get-BEStorage.
In the following, how do I get storage unit names fully instead of with ...
Hi,
New server with BE 2012 (Fully Updated)
If I set a full backup to run at night it fails with the following errors.
Error: SharePoint_AdminContent_bb92edc4-9b87-4eae-ba07-cce25a522f92 is a component of a SharePoint server farm. It must be backed up using the Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. Select it for backup from the Microsoft Server SharePoint Server Farms node.
V-79-57344-33925 - Error: SharePoint_ConfigurationDatabase is a component of a SharePoint server farm. It must be backed up using the Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. Select it for backup from the Microsoft Server SharePoint Server Farms node.
V-79-57344-33925 - Error: ShareWebDb is a component of a SharePoint server farm. It must be backed up using the Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. Select it for backup from the Microsoft Server SharePoint Server Farms node.
V-79-57344-33925 - Error: WSS_Search_SBS2011 is a component of a SharePoint server farm. It must be backed up using the Backup Exec Agent for Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server. Select it for backup from the Microsoft Server SharePoint Server Farms node.
The only way to avoid these errors is to unselect the following 2 items
the DATA folder under c:\program files\microsft SQL server\mssql10_50.sharepoint.
and
The Sharepoint node under Microsoft SQL server instances
But this then turns the green light off for Simplified Disaster Recovery (which obviously worries me)
I have not done anything with the Server Farm 1 option (should I be backing this up every night also)
I would appreciate any guidance on this.
Many thanks
Andrew
Hi there, does anyone know if backup exec 12.5 will support LTO 6 drives?
regards
I installed the beta this week... might regret it... but here's what I'm seeing with mt Windows 2012 Server fileserver and running HyperV:
hello, i have a desperate need to increase my C: partition. we are running 2008r2 and would like to get that needed space from the D: drive. Soooo, i will need to remove the D: partition and then extend my C: partition out, then restore all the data, including the share permissions back to the D: drive.
i have tested a directory and the security permissions come back, no issues... but it won't restore the sharing permissions:(
any advice on what to do about this?
thanks
I have tapes that are reading "Not Appendable (End Marker unreadable)"
I understand this happens for various reasons. No problem.
My issue is that I want to make the tape available for new use.
I have "associated" the media to the Scratch Media set. But the tape still says "Not appendable..."
When we had B.Exec 2010, I was able to RT click the tape and do a quick erase.
There is no option to do so here.
How can I get the tape to no longer be marked with "End marker unreadable"?
Screenshot attached shows tape # 000008 with the issue.
First off:
Backup Exec 2012 v14.0 rev. 1798 (64bit)
Exchange 2010
The Errors:
Final error: 0xe0001681 - Access is denied (Exchange restore)
Final error category: Security Errors
the above continues for a good long while
Greetings to all,
i have a slight issue where Backup Exec fails on testing credentials for the Oracle Database backup. The logon account for the Machine, C:, and System State is an local admin to the remote server and those test pass. For the Oracle Instance I'm using the same account info inserted into the Agent on the remote Server under the "Oracle" tab and it fails. Has anyone came across this issue?
