I need a solution

Hello Support,

We want to replicate server to another machine (similar or dissimilar hardware configuration).

  • What options do Backup Exec provide for this purpose?
  • Up to which level can we achieve replication?
  • Which Backup Exec components do we need for replication?
  • Can we perform point in time recvery for the whole server?

Please guide me through.

How to create a NetApp NDMP BU via Fibre and not via Network

I need a solution

Hi, we have configured the zoning between a NetApp and a shared BU drive.

The we have configured the NetApp for NDMP support and the NetApp was added in BU Exec 2012 as a NDMP server (after NDMP lic activation).

When I try to create a NDMP BU, I go to the server list, I "right click" on the NetApp server then I click on "Backup". There, I can see :

- Backup to deduplication disk storage,

- Backup to deduplication disk storage and then duplicate to deduplication disk storage,

- Backup to deduplication disk storage and then, deduplication to tape,

- Backup to disk,

- Backup to disk and then duplicate to tape,

and finaly

- Backup to tape

Based on this backup offer, we tried to create a "backup to tape"

On the left column, we have selected a NetApp volume.  And on the right column, via "Edit", we decide to :

- "Schedule" : create a full backup,

- "Storage" : we select the available drive

- Network ; default

- ...

- NDMP : we select "BAckup Access Control Lists" and "Enable file history"

When we realised the backup, we have had Nework backup via the BU Exec server...  and not a direct backup to the drive.

Could you help me please ?

Tks

Tape library IBM TS3100 and backup exec 2012

I need a solution

Hello,

We have recently purchased an IBM system Storage TS3100 tape library with two LTO6 IBM ULT3580-HH6 tape unit.

I have connected one of the tape units to our windows 2008 Server where backup exec 2012 runs. The point is I am trying to add the library hardware to backup exec and the only thing it discovers is the tape unit.

Does anyone know how could I make backup exec to discover the whole library?

I have connected just one of the tape units, because I am working with a provisional server, as I am waiting for windows Server 2012 to be supported by backup exec.

Thank you very much.

Kind Regards.

David.

Job Rate

I need a solution

Hi,

We have BE 2010 R2 that works with a  Dell backup library, I have 4 jobs that for last 3 years works very good, but since 2 days ago my differenatial back-up job has a really low Job rate like 114 MB/min. the same job untill 2 days ago has an 1716 MB/min job rate. so the same job that every night take about 45 min to backup 100 GB data, now take us like 13 hours.

Nothing has been change on the media server side or the job. any idea why the job rate is too low? and how can I solve this issue.

Thanks

Hello,

We seem to receive this error message on the Exchange backup ever 20 days or so.

e0001212 - The volume that is used for the staging location must be a writable NTFS volume that is local to the Backup Exec server. Also, the volume must not be shared through Distributed File System. See the job log for more details.

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-4626

The Article it links to is completely useless. I have had a look around in the forums and on the Internet but they only seem to refer to when you are doing a restore, whereas this is during an Exchange Backup.
We are using Backup Exec 2010 R3 service pack 2 with the Exchange plug in on an SBS 2011 server (standard)
It is a single disk exchange server and no dfs is configured or used.
The backup job only contains the Exchange database, no other files are included.
The only way we have found to resolve this issue is to recreate the job, it then works for roughly 20 days again then comes up with the same message.
Rebooting the server doesn't help.
There is plenty of disk space free, the exchange database is roughly about 50GB, there is 700GB free on that disk.
We have checked the temporary dump location and everyone has permissions to it (this was only a temporary change).

If you need anymore information just let me know
Cheers

Hi

I've actually one BackupExec 2012 Server where job backup to disk are running

Shortly, i m going to receive a tape library connected to a different server.

So if i want to duplicate job to tape, i have to install Backup Exec Server on my future server but how to "link" both servers .. Can it be done by the Central Admin Server Option ?
If yes, do i need a dedicated server or it can be install on one of the 2 servers ?

Thanks

Looking for a function to continue a job if it finds a directory missing

I need a solution

Hello all,

I'm sure many of you have come across the issue of a job failing to run after it finds that there are missing sub-directories in the original pathing that you designated for your job during creation.  My question is this:

Is it possible to setup a job to continue running even after it has found a sub-directory(s) missing to prevent the job from failing all together?

Any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I need a solution

I recently asked the Backup and recovery forum if anyone has know of a way to have a job continue to function after it has found one or many missing sub-directories rather then fail.  This feature would help is my current situation as ther job is a rather large volume that takes several hours over night and with the job failing, it delays my morning schedule of regular maintenance.  If anyone knows of a way to do this please let me know.  Otherwise I hope that this feature could possibly be implemented in the future.

Thank you,

Hello, i´m just migrating from BE2010R3 to 2012SP1a and find a lot of differences.

Maybe someone of you can explain me things...

I add a sql server to the list of servers to be backed up and then...appears 2 sql servers.

One of them only displays sql instances..the other displays volumes and databases.

Why this behavior?

The error below I find vague references to producuts I don't use (VM ware, etc):

I had done a firmware upgrade and the partition the old disk was on was wiped. I'm guessing this simply means it's not where the software is looking, correct?

However, this is the error I get when trying to do a restore:

You can see the error here which does not match up to what my logs are saying. ANy ideas on this one? (i'm running a new full backup as we speak). Thanks

[BE2012] How to change path of disk storage

I need a solution

Hello,

The IP of my NAS I'm using as "Backup to Disk" destination changed and I would simply like to change the path of the destination pointing to that new IP:

21-06-2013 08-11-56.jpg

BUT within the properties of that Storage in Backup Exec 2012 I can't adapt the IP as the "Path" seems to be read only. sad

Is there any possibility to change this?? I assumed that should be very simply but it doesn't seem to be...

Thanks in advance,

VMWare incremental backups are too large

I need a solution

I have a problem with incremental bakcups of a VMWare Virtual Machine.

Our Environment: Backup Exec 2010 R3 build 5204 on a Windows 2008 R2 Box. vSphere 5.1 (not yet supported, I know) hosting many Windows 2008 R2 boxes, backuped thru VMWare Agent and SAN-connected.

Most of the VMs are backuped well.

The one that is disscussed here is doing good full weely backups (520 GB). The problem is with daily incrementals, which are too large compared to the amount of data changed on the file system, which are now around 263 GB. As far as I can go in the job History, the incrental size was 38 GB on 23 march, 64 GB on 04 april, and continously growing (106 GB on 07 may, 119 GB on 14 may...).

If I look for modified file on the system (with powershell get-childitem "E:\" -recurse | where-object {$_.mode -notmatch "d"} | where-object {$_.lastwritetime -gt [datetime]::parse("20/06/2013") -and $_.lastwritetime -lt [datetime]::parse("22/06/2013")} | select lastwritetime, fullname, length | Export-Csv -Path "C:\Modified.csv" -Encoding UTF8 -Delimiter ";"), I can see that only files for a total amount of 455 MB were modified.

The jobs are belonging to a policy, the same that is used for 19 others VM without this problem. I tried to delete and create the job without success.

Searching for a solution lead me to a dead end. The only revelant informations I found is http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129452, but it’s not the same behaviour and version of Backup Exec.

For now I will run only Full weekly backups, as the incremental backups are too large and filling my b2d space.

Help needed !

Thanks
