Quantum DXi6701 with IBM 3575-TL

I need a solution

I have one BE 2012 server and target is Quantum OST storage DXi6701.

I use OST backup and have multiple LSU-s. Backup goes over IP network. No SAN connections beween BE media server, sources and target. All IP.

Now I connected IMB tape library  3575-TL directly to Quantum storage (using FC) and I see it on PTT tab and it's enabled.

How can I use it in BE? I would like to add "copy to tape" to my backup jobs.

Or I can create new job - copy full LSU to tapes. But how? BE does not show me tape drive,.

Quantum help:

The PTT page allows you to configure the path to tape (PTT) feature of the DXi6000. There are two types of path to tape:

  • Backup application specific path to tape allows you to move data from the DXi to physical tape cartridges in an attached physical tape library using an NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) connection. The DXi supports NDMP V4.

OST path to tape (also called Direct To Tape) allows you to use Symantec NetBackup to copy LSUs from a storage server on the DXi to a physical tape library.

So I have to use NDMP? How?

I've noticed that when a Job is running, the ability to select 'Clean' on the tape device is present, otherwise it's omitted. Why is this?

At the moment, cleaning statistics don't seem to function (is this because it's a single device and not robotic librarry)?

Thanks

I need a solution

Hello Community,

my two Problems Are: i got no notificytion after the backup Job nor the copy Jobs. but email notification is configuerd and testet.

the second Problem is: the copy Jobs simultaneously, are very slow. Ultrium 700MB/min, Remote B2D 1900MB/min
when the run seperatly, the bandwiths are very higher more then 2600MB/min.

Has anybody ideas are suggests about that Problem?

We have Backup Exec V12 R1364 with this Hotfixes: Servicepack 5, Hotfix 358179 and Hotfix 141388.
On Windows Server 2003 SP2

B2D corrupt/unreadable

I need a solution

I have a B2D on a NAS that's displayed as offline in BE. When I try to browse to the B2D directory in Windows it tells me it's not accessible and that the folder is corrupt/unreadable. In BE's KB, the resolution is: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

My question is, if I do that, will I lose all the B2D data? In that resolution your basically deleted the corrupt B2D folder and creating a new one only.

Hi, I want to do a backup from drive A to drive B using Symantec BUE 2012. I am not able to find an option that tells backup from this drive to another. Please let me know how I can specify my initiator drive (drive that needs to be backed up) and a target drive (drive that stores the backed up data).

How to set up GFS single server with tape offsite

I need a solution

My apologies for being such a newby. But I was hoping to get an idea on how to put togther a workflow for backing up a single server using GFS for tape while sending tape rotations to offsite. Having trouble with this new version of Backup Exec and looking to do the following:

I have a Quantum Superloader 3 with a single LTO-5 drive and 14 tapes. Looking to backup up a RAID that has the capacity to go up to 4TB, but not at the limit at this point. Data retention to keep information around is only needed 3 months as a seperate procedure is used to duplicate archives and stored indefinitley.

The quantum is running on its own backup exec server and is backing up a windows 2008 server with attached RAID. Looking to also create a schedule on getting tapes to go offsite on a rotating basis, this is the part I have having trouble with. Setting up the media pools for the GFS and how that would apply to offiste tape rotations on a smaler unit like the Quantum. Have no issues with extra tapes going in and out of the system. Any help to help me quickly get an idea on how to map this out with Backup Execs new workflow features.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've noticed that when my individual shares show up as below, I can't actually chose them unless I expand the C:\ drive and THEN pick them from in there (seems to defeat the whole purpose):folder selection_1.png

My question is (and i'm trying it now) can't I just use the windows computers and servers client? I don't have the misleading picture above of individual shares that are actually empty.

Hi everybody!

We have now a backup job, which saves de data on a tape and we want to change that.

We want to save data now on a NAS. How can we change the storage location to the NAS? Now we can only select the tapedrive as the storage location..

--> The NAS is NOT directly connected with the Server. But it's in the same network.

Confused about SDR and Symantec System Recovery (SSR) Server Edition

I need a solution

I have Symantec Backup Exec (SBE) 2012.

The Symantec System Recovery Server Edition 2013 states that System Recovery technology is now included with SBE 2012 and V-Ray edition.

http://www.symantec.com/small-business/products-solutions/category/detail.jsp?pcid=backup-recovery&inid=us_smb_ps-flyout_prod-cat_backup-recy

This article from this forum (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sdr-recovery-sql-server-2008-r2) stated by “Colin Weaver” that we need “…Symantec System Recovery offers that functionality…..” wherein addition to SDR, SSR can restore SQL, Exchange, etc. in a single pass.

So assuming, I have a separate Media Server (with all the application/data/server agents); another bare-metal server that has Win2K8R2, AD, Exchange, and SQL; and need to restore this box on another bare-meal box (or a HyperV for arguments sake), do I need SDR only or SSR or both to do a single pass restore since SDR and SSR are now combined in SBE 2012?

Slow Job Rates after an unexpected shutdown of the media as well as catalog server.

I need a solution

Hello

I am quit new to the Backup Exec enviroment.I am working on Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows server.

2 days before we had an unexpected network crash and many of the servers were rebooted. From last 2 days we are dealing with slow job rates of 2 to 3MB/min whereas the job rates were on an average 1400MB/min 2 days back for a perticular job.

There were many jobs (Almost all) that were having same issue.

After the media and the catalog server came up from an unexpected reboot there were communication issue from media server end.So we disabled one of the LAN and fortunately the communication issue between media and catlog server was resolved but we faced this remarkable decline in the job rates from this.

Please provide the solution for this.

How to restore an offline media and move it back to library slot?

I need a solution

I've just finished setting up a backup server. When testing the server,  i'm having issue with one of these tapes which I've originally put into slot 6. The job that uses that specific slot failed becuase of the media being as offline. I cancelled the job and now slot 6 is showing as empty and that tape just sits in the offline category. I've tried cataloging the media but the job keeps queuing and has done nothing. Can anybody tell me how to change the status of the tape from offline to online and get it moved back to slot 6 as it was originally set up.

Deduplication storage offline

I need a solution

Recently I've solve the problem of my SAN storage, but after the SAN storage issue solved, I found that the deduplication storage in backup exec 2012 was offline.

I tried to restart the PostgreSQL server 8.3 and backup exec deduplication engine services but failed.

I checked the eventlog and found this error mesage:

"Event ID: 0; Source: PostgresSQL

The description for Event ID 0 from source PostgreSQL cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

2013-01-31 17:57:50 GMT FATAL: could not create lock file "postmaster.pid": Invalid argument "

I follow the troubleshoot guide from this link

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH205809

I've checked the permission for this volume for the BESA account was full control.

Then I follow this link:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH136974

But there isn't delete option when I right click on the postmaster.pid. I try highlight the postmaster.pid and press the delete button but files was not able to delete.

I reboot the backup server and tried the solution again but the result still the same.

My backup exec 2012 has the latest update.

Hope for symantec expert to help me out.

Exchange GRT against Exchange 2007, worked on v12.5 but not 2010 R3

I need a solution

I recently upgraded a customer backup exec server to v2010 R3 with all SP and hotfixes installed.  Exchange 2007 GRT backup used to work on v12.5 but now fails with this message:

V-79-57344-918 - Unable to complete the operation for the selected resource using the specified options.  The following error was returned when opening the Exchange Database file:  '-546 The log file sector size does not match the sector size of the current volumn. '

If I turn off GRT, it works just fine.  But obviously I want to use the GRT option because the customer sometimes need to recover single mail messages.  I tried this fix but didn't work, http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH164166

thanks in advance

Restoring VM's

I need a solution

Let us say that these applications are running on each on its own VMs on a HyperV (HyperV on C and VMs on D).

I have a seperate media server running SBE 2012 (with BE Agent for VMWare and MS HyperV only.  I have no BE Agent for apps/databases so no GRT)

I added a server and pushed the Agent on the HyperV only; added one backup job "fully selected" which includes the C,D,System State, HyperV,etc. which I then create a SDR and saved the .dr file.

#1 - If the SP and Exchange got corrupted and I had to restore the 2 VMs (on same HyperV), all I have to do is do a one job restore in a single pass the VMs and everything should be there?

#2 - If I have to restore the HyperV (on another new ML350), the SDR boot disk can only restore the HyperV part?

#3 - Then I do another job restore and have the VMs redirected to the new ML350?
