I have a few files that are selected for backup, but I receive this entry for them in the job log: "File <file path> is in the backup selection list but was not found" . These files are located on NAS storage, but other files are backed up from that disk without a problem. Any idea how to resolve this?
We have been using Backup Exec for a long time. Back when Veritas was calling the shots. For whatever reason, Symantec seems to take a good product and train wreck the software. I am talking about Backup Exec 2012. 2010 R3 was running great and we thought GREAT, 2012 should be cool. NOPE! They completely changed the interface and the functionality of the job management features went away. We have been disappointed in the past with their shody upgrades and hours needed talking to their tech support which is NOT free. We have decided not to renew our contracts with Symantec and use a new technolgy. When you have to spend many man hours trying to work around the changes....it is time to move on. Too bad for Symantec.

I have thisproblem for couple of monthes ... after 2 or 3 succefull backup there come 1 failed backup with this error

Infact the E: drive is on the backup server itself , so i don't understand why it needes network connection

I have a dedicated Backup Server with BE 2012 Sp1a + alle Hotfixes that backups a MIcrosoft Small Business Server 2008. We do not have the SBS Variant of BE 2012 of course, there is only the Remote Agent installed on the SBS Box. We have the Agent for applications and databases licensed for that sbs server.
I have two Jobs for the SBS Server, one backing up only file system resources (and system state), the other backing up only GRT Resources (including Sharepoint).
For months, all jobs went without any hazzle. but then I installed Windows 2008 SP2 on the SBS Box and following MS Updates. I also installed some hotfixes on the Backup Server and updated the Remote Agents in the network.
All of a sudden, the file system resources backup has exceptions regarding sharepoint resources - even if there aren't any in the selection list. The GRT resources Job is running with no exceptions.
Of course I found http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... in the Knowledge Base.
But the advice given in that article did not help and I am not sure if the described problem is really the same as i am having. Error Code is the same and even the error message, but I was backing up sharepoint from the beginning with no problems and all of a sudden the non-sharepoint job reports problems.
I also included the Sharepoint resources in the file system job - and it still ends with the same warning message.
I then excluded every sharepoint folder and file from the file level exclusion list - and still it tells me to back things up with the sharepoint agent.
I am guessing, this message is just for information, like: "I see you have sharepoint, you should back it up with the corresponding agent" and not an indication that something is actually going wrong. Because obviously I am not having any problems, I am backing up sharepoint and i verfied that the backups are valid.
Is there any way of disabling those warning messages?
I did not proceed to remove the remote agent and install it again. Should i give this a try?

Here are the details about the setup mentioned below.
BE2010R3 with sp2 and all hotfixes
Raws on win2003 sp2 64bit exch2007 server
We are first backing up the exchange data to Dedup folder and then duplicating it to tape as per our requirement.
The backup to dedup will complete in 6 hours or so and it backups up around 250gb because our db is around 250 gb in size.
Then when duplicate to tape starts it reaches upto 248gb in just 6 hours and then no byte changes but if we open the job activity the directories and files number changes/updates and the job will complete after around 5 hours. So totol time taken would be 11-12 hours for duplicate job
We tried to backup to B2D folder and then tried to duplicate it and it runs fine and duplicate job completed in just 4 hours.
Any reason why backup exec is behaving like this.

I'm running Exchange 2010 SP1 and Backup Exec 2010 R3. We currently perform nightly backups of the exchange database including Full logs, with GRT enabled. We can restore individual items at mail item level without a problem. However we would like to test a full restore of the database in the Recovery environment so we can simulate a full scale recovery scenario.
When I follow the follow steps to restore to a recovery database, I find that my restore (Despite pointing to the Recovery database) restores the database with its original name along side the recovery database. When you try to mount the database it mounts the blank one. Even if I try and restore without first creating the blank database, it still creates one along side the restored one. Also I notice that no logs are restored.
Is there something obvious I am doing wrong?
Steps I have followed:
1. Create 2 folders on the Exchange mailbox server.
•Database –> E:\Recovery\Database
•Transaction Logs –> E:\Recovery\Logs
Make sure you're restoring full backup and not differential otherwise otherwise only the logs will restore.
Create Recovery database in the Management Shell:
New-MailboxDatabase -Recovery -Name RDB -Server DCEXMAILP01 -EdbFilePath "E:\Recovery\RDB\RDB.EDB" -LogFolderPath "E:\Recovery\RDB"
Mount the DB, as you need a blank DB file to Pre-exist then dismount and delete all files except the .edb in the E:\Recovery\Database. (Ensure that on the DB properties the check box is checked for for database can be overwritten by a restore. It should still be checked.
Once recover is complete, the DB will automatically be mounted.

If taking backup of vitual machines with pass through disks is not possible through hyper-v option then does that mean that we can only take back of virtual machine's system state through the backup exec remote agent or there is another way to take snapshot?

Apologies if this has come up before, but I had a search through and couldn't find anything.
We're backing up VMWare Virtual Machines on an ESX host using GRT. Some of those virtual machines are domain controllers, and we want to ensure AD is being backed up. I've selected the option in the job "Enable GRT for Microsoft Active Directory on virtual machines", but the job always completes with a warning. The warnings we're receiving are as follows, and appear for every domain controller:
Is it safe to ignore these warnings? If we had a complete system failure and had to rely on the backup, could I restore AD to a working state without these directories?

I am consistently getting failed backups with the error message: "A failure occurred querying the Writer status." This is a Windows Server 2008 machine with Exchange 2007 and Backup Exec 2012. The failure is occuring on a job which writes data to a HP Tape Drive.
The job log provides the following information:
Snapshot technology error (0xE000FED1): A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.
If I click on the link to V-79-57344-65233 I get several options to try; the one closest to mine references exchange and the information store (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH142957&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1350484120627) The article wanted me to do the following, which I did:
- I did an Un-mount and re-mount the information store databases
- I Restarted the Exchange information store
- I checked the list of writers with 'vssadmin list writers' command and got this:

I have a daily backup job that always returns the following exception:

Can someone please explain why this is happening? G: is not part of my selections in the backup properties.
For auditing purposes we save all our job history logs as mht documents to a network share, that means every day, logging into all of our backup servers, opening every new job log, clicking save as etc.
It would seem like exporting multiple job logs at once would be a fairly straight forward feature but I'm not able to find anything that would do this for me. is there a way to automate this or do it programatically?
I downloaded the 4 dvd 2010 R3 install and burn it to an ISO and did all the preliminary steps preparing for the upgrade and when I finally click on the browser exe for the installation I get:
Error 193 loading DVD browser plugin E:\bin\BrowserOps.dll %1 is not a valid Win32 application.
I read all over the internet that this is a problem with Symantec downloads, but what I am supposed to do? Redownloading is going to be the same error.

Backup Exec 2012 Version 14.0 Revision 1798 (64-bit) - Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
I have multiple servers that do incremental backups Mon-Friday to a specific tape in a Quantum Superloader 3 using DLTtape VS1 (DLT-V4) tapes.We had 20 tapes in our library and the backups to those tapes work with out an issue. I recently purchased 5 more the exact same kinds of tapes but when I run the backup jobs to those tapes the first job runs fine but the second job either bombs at the beginning or sometime during.
I will get the following errors.
The device, \Device\Scsi\adpu160m1, is not ready for access yet.
The device, \Device\Scsi\adpu160m1, did not respond within the timeout period.
Storage device "QUANTUM 0001" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: 0x17 V-79-57344-34028 - A backup storage read/write error has occurred.
Storage device "QUANTUM 0001" reported an error on a request to read data from media.
Error reported: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. V-79-57344-33992 - The backup storage device has failed.
Also after it fails under Apendable Until in the Robotic Library details it will state Not Appendable (End Marker Unreadable)
This ONLY happens with the new tapes. I had those 5 tapes replaced but I am still having this issue. I've done both a quick and long erase on the tapes.
I've talked to Symantec Support and to Quantum and all I am getting from them is a SCSI issue or bad tapes. But 10 bad tapes from 2 seperate orders??? Also if it is a SCSI problem why does this only happen with the new tapes. I am running the same jobs the same way on the same hardware. The ONLY difference is the new tapes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Good evening friends, I have a problem with Backup Exec 2010 R3, what happens to edit tasks and I do not see where servers make selections, how rare is not outputting any backup error and if they work, if I can help display the servers, I have not made significant changes so I find it very strange and no error logs out to look at the page SYMANTEC ...

I need Help.
I installed backup exec small business server 2012 on a sbs 2008 server. I then decided that I will setup a new server with sbs 2011 and will install backup exec 2012 on the new server.
So, what happened next : I uninstalled backupexec 2012 and as it was busy we had a power failure. Now Backupexec cannot be installed, repaired or uninstalled from the windows small business server 2008. My big problem is that I need the sbs 2008 server to be perfect before I migrate the sbs 2008 server to sbs 2011.
No Backup's - Big problem now. In Panic stage? What can I do. I've tried to install sp1a and did nothing. Tried reinstall from cd , usb nothing. Selected uninstall from Control Panel will not work. Tried to repair and it install's everyrhing and when it get's to Backup exec 2012 file it stops and is saying please insert disk.......the same disk that was just used to start the install.

I have the Windows Agent and Applications and Databases agent installed on Backup Exec 2012 SP1. I'm backing up Exchange 2010 SP1. When I go to select the database from the Selection list, why does it show that the database is 0 Bytes? I tested my credentials and have full access.
Also when using the VMware Agent to backup an Exchange 2010 SP1 VM that is a guest on an ESXi Server, does Backup Exec flush the logs after completing and Exchange database backup and yes I a have the application level GRT selected in the Virtual Machine (not sure if this makes any difference) backup properties.
